Final year UNN student found dead after dropping suicide note

Final year UNN student ‘commits’ suicide

A final year student at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Chukwuemeka Akachi, has died from an apparent suicide after leaving a note on Facebook.

The student, a native of Eha-Alumona in Nsukka local government area of Enugu State, had been dealing with dementia for over two months before the incident.

His suicide note read: “Suicide Note. Forgive me. In case you are the one who found the body, I am really sorry. It had to be someone, you know. I have chosen Jo Nketaih’s poem as my suicide note: ‘They said you came looking for me. I didn’t drown; I was the water.’ Where do atheists go to when they die? lol. Amen.”

Akachi was studying English and Literary Studies.

Enugu police spokesperson, Ebere Amaraizu, has confirmed the incident, describing it as “unfortunate”.

Amaraizu said investigation had begun to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.

It was gathered that the UNN student also had problems with mental health.

He allegedly consumed a poisonous substance that led to his death.

According to one of his lecturers, Akachi had received counselling after attempting to take his life the first time.
