Final year Mathematics student ‘dies for love’ on Valentine’s Day

A final year Mathematics student of the Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State has reportedly died by suicide to protest his girlfriend’s decision to leave him.

According to reports, Bashir Abdullahi, a native of Ungwa Uku Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State, took a poisonous substance on Valentine’s Day because his girlfriend simply identified as Raf’at jilted him.

Mr Abdullahi who resided at his off-campus apartment within the Yalwawa quarters of Dutse was pronounced dead on arrival at Rasheed Shekoni Specialist Hospital in Dutse.

“When his friends discovered what happened, they quickly rushed him to the Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital in the state capital, where he was confirmed dead by doctors on arrival,” a source said.

The girlfriend reportedly denied cheating on Abdullahi.

Spokesman for the police in Jigawa Zubairu Ismai said the university had commenced investigation into the incident.
