A final year engineering student at Akwatia Technical School, Ghana, Hebert Atiko, has died after collapsing following Liverpool’s incredible win over Barcelona in UEFA Champions League semi-finals second-leg match at Anfield Tuesday night.

Atiko was part of fans who celebrated wildly after the fourth goal at a pub in Eastern Ghana.

After his collapse, football fans around the premises tried to revive him but failed.

An eyewitness said Atiko was taken to St. Dominics Hospital in Akwatia where doctors pronounced him dead.

Principal of the school, Maxwel Owusu-Afriyie, told Accra-based radio station, Starr FM, that the incident is being investigated.

“We will get the details and see if there was something the students did that suggest that his behavior was in excess.

“On that we can really talk to the students. We have a system in place where we talk to the students and their behavior these days,” he said.

It is believed that the deceased was staying in a rented apartment outside the school campus.
