Femi Kuti’s adopted son Kwame Joseph gets married in Lagos

Kwame Joseph, adopted son of Afrobeat star Femi Kuti, has gotten married to his partner Okwuchi in Lagos.

The wedding ceremony held last week at the 10 Degrees Event Centre in Ikeja was attended by friends and families of the bride and groom, including Femi, his elder sister Yeni Kuti, his son Made and his ex-wife Funke Kuti.

Photos and videos from the traditional and white wedding were uploaded on Instagram by Yeni Kuti, her partner Theo Lawson, the management of the New Afrika Shrine and others.

Kwame, who is Ghanaian by birth but grew up in Femi’s household, was dressed in traditional Igbo attire and later a Ghanaian outfit for the traditional wedding.

A proud Femi posted a photo of the couple rocking a Ghanaian outfit at the traditional wedding and congratulated them.

He wrote: “My Son got married yesterday to his beautiful partner (now wife) congratulations to the both of you, wishing you both a marriage full of happiness, understanding and joy.”

During Kwame’s graduation from the University of Lagos in 2017, Femi celebrated him on Twitter.

“Kwame Joseph my Son who I’ve taken care of since his JSS 2 graduated 2day in unilag. Made me very proud & showed most just need a little”, he wrote.

An excited Yeni also posted several photos from the wedding ceremony on Instagram.

Captioning some of the photos of the newlyweds, She wrote: “Please indulge me. My next few posts are going to be of Femi’s adopted son, @thisiskwamee and his lovely bride Lilian. These pictures of their traditional wedding. They both looked so lovely but she looked exceptionally beautiful. African women always shine when they dress African sha. It was a lovely wedding. Pained me that I didn’t take more pictures. Having too much fun.”

The 61-year-old also posted a video of Femi dancing with his son Made, Made’s girlfriend Inedoye Onyenso and others.

Yeni also shared photos of herself and Theo rocking traditional attire at the event.

“My partner and I at the oyinbo wedding of Femi Kuti’s adopted son. It was a beautiful wedding,” she captioned the photos.

Still, in a celebratory mood, Mr Lawson, an architect and director of Freedom Park in Lagos posted photos from the event, adding that Joseph had made Femi proud.

Captioning the photos he shared, Lawson wrote: “Traditional wedding of Kwame and Okwuchi in Lagos. Ashanti and Ibo connection. Kwame grew up in Femi’s household and yesterday made him a proud dad.”

The management of the New Afrika Shrine also celebrated the couple on Instagram.

Photos from the event were also shared on the platform and captioned: “The management and staff of the New Afrika Shrine celebrate with Kwame and Okwuchi. Happy married life. Please celebrate with us.”

In their pre-wedding photos shared on Instagram last week, Okwuchi described the groom as her soulmate, promising to be with him forever.

Kwame and Okwuchi have been together for 10 years before getting married.

They have a two-year-old daughter named Nyamekye Nyarkoaa.
