Femi Kuti undergoes surgery, cancels performances

One month after Felabration 2015, Grammy award nominee, Femi Kuti, has cancelled all showbiz related engagements to undergo surgery for an undisclosed ailment.

A statement issued by management of the Afrika Shrine on Facebook revealed that the 53-year-old will be off the stage for a couple of weeks.

The statement reads: “This is to inform our fans and lovers of Afrobeat, that there will not be Sunday jump on 22-11-2015 because Ambassador Femi Kuti is going for an operation and will not be able to perform for a couple of weeks. We will keep all updated on the schedule of when the positive force band will play as our prayers are with Ambassador Femi Kuti, Afrobeat forever!!!!!”

Picture of him lying on the bed at an undisclosed hospital has also been released.

Femi Kuti is the eldest son of Afro beat pioneer, Fela Kuti, and a grandchild of political campaigner, women’s rights activist and traditional aristocrat, Funmilayo Ransome Kuti.

He holds a regular Sunday Jump with his Positive Force at the Afrika Shrine located in Ikeja, Lagos every week except when he is unavailable to do so.

Qed.ng was informed that he held a rehearsal with his band members on Thursday unaware that the show for the week would not go on.
