Female dry cleaner faces N5.9m fraud, theft charges

A female dry cleaner, Bose Bamidele, who allegedly stole her friend’s car and other items worth N5.9 million, was on Monday brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Bamidele, 26, who resides at Olufemi, off Ogunlana Road, Lagos, is standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on stealing and fraud.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Cyriacus Osuji told the court that the accused committed the offences sometimes in 2017 at Anthony area of Lagos.

Osuji said that the accused fraudulently obtained the sum of N3.7 million from her friend, Abimbola Ayanwale, by representing herself as Dapo Awosika.

“The accused obtained N3.7 million from the complainant under the guise that she is Dapo Awosika, and the accused had the knowledge that the said Awosika does not exist,” Osuji said.

The prosecutor also said that the accused obtained the complainant’s Toyota Corolla worth N1.5 million, one HP Laptop worth N700, 000 under the guise of returning the items but failed to do so.

He said that all the items stolen by the accused was N5.9 million.

The offences contravened Sections 287 (5) and 313 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs B. O. Gbenga-Olusanya, admitted her to a bail of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.

Gbenga-Olusanya said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and with verifiable addresses.

The case was adjourned until March 26 for mention.
