Sprint sensation Favour Ofili made history on Saturday at the 2025 Adidas Atlanta City Games, shattering the women’s 150m world record with a stunning time of 15.85 seconds at Piedmont Park, Atlanta.
The 22-year-old became the first woman to break the 16-second barrier in the rarely-run event, eclipsing the previous best of 16.23s set by Bahamian Olympic champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo in 2018.
Celebrating her achievement, Ofili posted a video of the race on her X account with the caption, “For the lord is Good.”
World Athletics also celebrated the feat on Instagram, posting a photo of the Nigerian athlete and writing, “World best 🚨 🇳🇬’s @ofili.fa powers to the fastest 150m in history with 15.85 at the @adidasatlcitygames 🔥 Click the link in bio for the report 📲”
Ofili’s record-breaking run was the highlight of a strong Nigerian showing at the high-profile street meet, which featured top athletes from around the globe in a vibrant, fan-friendly setup.
Tobi Amusan, the world record holder in the 100m hurdles, finished second in her heat with a time of 12.53s, narrowly behind American Keni Harrison who clocked 12.44s.
Amusan’s performance secured her a spot in the final later in the day and continued her solid form following earlier outings of 12.74s in Xiamen and 12.66s in Keqiao.
Sprinter Udodi Onwuzurike also impressed, posting a season’s best of 10.20s to finish second in his 100m heat behind South Africa’s Akani Simbine, who won in 10.13s. Onwuzurike’s performance earned him a place in the final and signaled a strong return in his 2025 campaign.
The Adidas Atlanta City Games is a unique street-style athletics competition held outside traditional stadium settings, offering a close-up experience for fans and a vibrant stage for elite athletes to shine.
