Farmer in court for allegedly stealing 100 chickens from a poultry

A 35-year-old farmer, Peter James, who the police accused of stealing 100 chickens from a poultry farm in his neighbourhood, on Friday appeared in an Iyaganku Magistrates’ court sitting at Ibadan.

Police charged James of Operinde Orile – Odo area, via Idi – Ayunre, Ibadan, with two counts of conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Oluseye Oyebanji told the court that James and some others (at large), unlawfully conspired to commit the offence of stealing.

Oyebanji alleged that James stole 100 chickens valued N400, 000 from a poultry farm in his neighbourhood property of one Lukman Onalaja of Abekooko village, Odo – Ona Kekere, Ibadan.

He said the offence was committed on Nov.19, at about 3 a.m. at Operinde Orile – Odo area via Idi – Ayunre, Ibadan.

Oyebanji said the offence contravened the provisions of section 516 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code cap 38, Vol. II of the Oyo state 2000.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Oluwabusayo Osho, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Osho adjourned the case until Dec.20, for hearing.
