A 30-year-old farmer, Hakilu Saidu, appeared before a Katsina Senior Magistrates’ Court on Thursday for allegedly flogging his neighbour’s stepdaughter to death.

Mr Saidu, a native of Yankara village in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State, is now facing a charge of culpable homicide under Section 221 of the Penal Code.

The farmer reportedly inflicted severe injury on the four-year-old victim who gave up the ghost after being rushed to the General Hospital, Funtua.

The unnamed victim’s stepfather, Yahuza Yakubu, reported the incident at the Faskari Police Division.

Mr Yakubu told the police that his stepdaughter was taken to an uncompleted building near the residence he shares with Saidu and beat her up.

The victim’s offence was, however, not stated.

The court ruled that Saidu is to remain in Katsina Prison till April 4 when his case will come up before Senior Magistrate Fadila Dikko.
