Fans call for Van Gaal sack after Manchester United draw Chelsea

Manchester United fans and pundits alike once again showed their dissatisfaction at coach Louis Van Gaal over the goalless draw with Chelsea on Monday evening at Old Trafford.

The game was preceded by Red Devil fans waving banners displaying “leave vanish go” and “Van Gaal out, Mourinho in” after an eight-game winless streak and an unacceptable football philosophy.

Recently sacked Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, has been touted as his replacement, his agent, Jorge Mendez said “at the moment we haven’t been talking about England, Spain or Italy”.

But the Red Devils weren’t distracted by the speculations as they produced a much better attacking and entertaining display against the league’s defending champions.

United rattled the woodwork twice, but could not find the net and had to settle for their seventh goalless draw of the season.

Chelsea had their chances too. David de Gea pulled off stunning saves to deny Pedro, Cesar Azpilicueta and John Terry – and Nemanja Matic ploughed the ball into the East Stand after going through after the break.

But, United were the better side and probably deserved three points.

Whether that is enough to save Van Gaal remains to be seen. The statistics do not look good for the Dutchman.

United are now winless in eight, they go into the new year in their lowest position since the 1989-90 season and have scored two goals in their last four.

Wayne Rooney who missed a couple of chances for the host said his team deserved to win.

“We created a lot of chances, but didn’t manage to take one,” the England international told BT Sport.

“The crowd were excellent today and you could see how much it meant to the players. It’s a disappointing result because we dominated the game, but that is football.

“A lot of people say a lot of different things. We would be letting ourselves down if we didn’t go out on the pitch and give our all. We will keep fighting and we will come back”, he added.
