Fake prophets defraud woman in search of healing of N100, 000

Police in Delta State have arraigned three fake prophets in a Magistrates’ Court in Asaba for allegedly defrauding an applicant of N100,000.

The suspects arraigned on fraud-related charges on Friday were named as John Ifeokochukwu, 25; Uchenna Obinna, 36; and Ifeanyi Udenwoke, 31.

The prosecutor, Rachael Offor, told the court that the defendants allegedly committed the offence on September 14 at Prescott Hotel in Asaba.

Mrs Offor alleged that the defendants told the complainant, Loveth Isibor, that they were prophets who have powers to deliver her from any afflictions.

She said that the alleged offence was punishable under sections 516 and 419 of the Criminal Code Cap C21 Vol, laws of Delta State of Nigeria 2006.

The suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Edith Anumodu admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N100,000 each with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned until October 15 for definite hearing.
