A Federal Capital Territory Magistrate’s Court has granted bail to former Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Kabiru Turaki, SAN, in the sum of N1 million following his arraignment on allegations of false marriage, adultery and criminal intimidation.
Turaki appeared in court on Thursday and pleaded not guilty to the charges outlined in the First Information Report (FIR), which was based on a petition dated August 9, 2024.
The case was prosecuted by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Abuja.
According to the prosecutor, Turaki allegedly deceived Miss Hadiza Baffa into believing they were legally married while cohabiting with her at various locations between December 2014 and November 2021.
The FIR further stated that their relationship resulted in the birth of a child, whom the ex-minister later abandoned while denying paternity.
He was also accused of threatening to use his influence against the mother and child.
Turaki’s lawyer, A. I. Mohammed, applied for bail, assuring the court that his client would be available for trial.
Prosecuting counsel, Chijioke Okorie, did not oppose the request but asked for a trial date.
Magistrate Abubakar Jega granted bail with two sureties who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide proof of residence.
The case was adjourned to March 11 for trial.
