Ex-governor’s aide sued for allegedly calling former wife adulterer

Boni Haruna

Salihu Yahaya, a former aide to the ex-governor of Adamawa State Boni Haruna, has been arraigned before Upper Area Court III in Yola, for allegedly calling his former wife Maryam Tabah an adulterer.

Mr Yahaya, who was the chief protocol to Mr Haruna, is facing charges for criminal defamation of his ex-wife who dragged him before a Yola Upper Area court, presided by Umar Isa.

Yahaya pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Tabah told the court that her ex-husband after their separation had gone to town, telling anyone who cares to listen to him that he divorced her because of her alleged adulterous habit.

She said Yahaya, who she was married to for 19 years, defamed her, by accusing her of adultery and telling everyone that, “he sent her packing because she had been committing adultery and going out with one young boy by name Adamu Buba Bazza.”

Court summons showed the marriage between the former governor’s aide was dissolved on January 4, 2021, and that without any legal jurisdiction, he called her friend Sa’a Luka, informing her that he divorced her friend on grounds of infidelity.

Tabah further told the court that the conduct of her former husband amounted to defamation of character punishable under section 378 of the Penal Code of Adamawa.
