Etebo makes La Liga best XI

Nigerian footballer Oghenekaro Etebo

Super Eagles midfielder, Oghenekaro Etebo, enjoyed a dream debut for Las Palmas in the Spanish La Liga on Monday.

The 22-year-old, on loan from Portuguese club CD Feirense, slotted straight into his new team when they faced fellow strugglers, Malaga, who had Brown Ideye on display.

Alan Halilovic got the winner for the Canary Island side in the 90th minute.

But it was Etebo’s performance that was singled out for plaudits after the encounter.

The Nigerian appeared tailor-made for the Spanish top-flight with his energy, athletism and pace.

As a result, he was picked by football stats giants, Whoscored, in their Team of the Week.

Etebo was the only Las Palmas player recognised, placed alongside Real Sociedad’s Asier Illarramendi in the middle of the park.

Las Palmas, though, still in the relegation zone, climbed to 17 points, level with Deportivo La Coruna in 18th.

Next up for Etebo and his new team is a trip to Athletic Club on Friday.
