Estate guard arraigned over alleged jeep vandalism, N500, 000 vehicle parts theft

A security guard, Isaac Peter, who allegedly vandalized an estate resident’s Infinity Jeep and stole the vehicle parts valued at N500,000,  on Monday appeared in a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The accused, 28, employed by the estate, is facing a two-count of theft and willful damage.

Police Prosecutor Richard Odigie told the court that the accused committed the offences on October 10 at Harmony Estate, Langbasa, Ajah Lagos.

He said the accused apart from vandalizing an Infinity Jeep, also stole the vehicle parts valued at N500, 000 belonging to a resident, Mr. Babatunde Ewetuga.

According to the Odigie, the guard stole two headlights, brain-box, navigator screen, bumper cover, window switch control and door glass all valued at N500, 000.

The offences contravened Sections 285 and 348 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 provides three years for stealing, while Section 348 prescribes two years imprisonment for willful damage.

The Magistrate, Mrs. F.O. Ikobayo granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until Nov. 1 for mention.
