Enugu North Senator Okey Ezea dies in UK during treatment

Enugu North Senator Okey Ezea has died.

His death occurred on Tuesday night in the United Kingdom while receiving treatment.

The development was confirmed on Wednesday by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, in a post on her verified Facebook account.

She wrote, “Rest in peace Distinguished Senator Okey Ezea. You were a good man, wise and gentle. Enugu North Senatorial District, Kogi Central honors your Senator and mourns with you.”

She said Mr Ezea’s prayers supported her during difficult times and that she will miss him in the Senate chambers.

“Your prayers kept me going through my darkest moments and I will miss you in chambers.”

Okey Ezea was born on 11 August 1963 to the family of late chief James Ezea of Itchi, Igbo-Eze South and Theresa Ezea of Nsukka Urban.

He co-founded the All Progressives Congress in Enugu in 2013 and was the party’s gubernatorial candidate in 2015.

In 2018, he was appointed chairman of the governing board of the Federal Medical Centre in Jalingo, a position he held until 2022 when he resigned to join the Labour Party.

He won the party’s senatorial ticket and was elected senator for Enugu North on 25 February 2023.
