Nigeria’s para badminton player Eniola Bolaji has won the 2026 Egypt International Championship held at the New Capital Indoor Hall in Cairo.
The Paralympic bronze medallist defeated Turkey’s world number seven, Halime Yildiz, 2–0 (21–10, 21–4) in the final on Sunday.
The Egypt Para Badminton International 2026 took place from January 13 to January 18 and featured athletes from 28 countries.
Bolaji began her campaign with a 2–0 (21–9, 21–10) win over Yildiz before defeating India’s Tulika Jadgave 2–0 (21–10, 21–7) in the second round.
She progressed to the semi-finals after beating India’s Manasi Girishchandra Joshi 2–0 (21–11, 21–13) and later defeated India’s Shivam Yadav Neeraj 2–0 (21–10, 21–11) to reach the final.
Reacting to the victory, President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, Francis Orbih, said Bolaji’s performances show that Nigeria can compete internationally.
“I am excited that Eniola Bolaji competed at the Egypt Para Badminton International and won gold once again,” Orbih said.
He recalled that Bolaji won several gold medals in North Africa in 2025 and expressed confidence in her performances in future competitions.
“I strongly believe Bolaji will have an exciting year and continue to bring pride to Nigeria and the federation,” he said.
Orbih also thanked the team’s sponsors and the National Sports Commission for supporting the development of para badminton.
“I thank GIG Logistics and the National Sports Commission for their support. I assure you that Eniola Bolaji will continue to give her best in future tournaments,” he added.
