Engineer bags 1-year imprisonment for fraud, stealing

An Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced one Olusegun Miracle, 35, to one-year imprisonment for fraud and stealing.

The accused, an electrical engineer with no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.

The chief magistrate, Mrs Adeola Adelaja, said all evidence presented in court proved that the accused was guilty of the offences.

She, however, sentenced Miracle to one-year imprisonment with an option of N200, 000 fine.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Grace Adebayo, had told the court that the accused committed the offences sometimes in August 2015 at Dominion Estate CDA, Atan-Ota in Ogun.

Adebayo said the accused collected N2.57million from Ileri-Ogo/ Dominion and Ife-lagba Communities in Atan under the pretext of supplying them a 500 by 33KVA transformer.

“The accused collected the money and supplied a-500 by 11KVA transformer in place of a 33KVA transformer and also stole a feeder pillar from the transformer,” she said.

The prosecutor said that the offences committed by Miracle contravened Sections 419 and 390 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
