Co-convener of Bring Back Our Girls movement (BBOG) Aisha Yesufu and a rights activist Segun Awosanya popularly known on Twitter as Segalink have called for unity among Nigerian youths following rumours that high-profile individuals held meetings with some persons who claim to be leaders of the #EndSARS campaign.

It was rumoured on Wednesday that Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote and UBA Group chairman Tony Elumelu held a Zoom meeting with UK-based lecturer Dipo Awojide, journalist Debola Williams, Yesufu, Phyno, Wizkid, Falz, D’banj and others over the #EndSARS protests which have lingered despite the controversial Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) being scrapped.

However, Yesufu in a tweet on Wednesday called for unity amid the rumour.

“Dear Nigerian Youth, Kindly focus. You have Nigerian government by the jugular,” she wrote.

“Focus on that & get the necessary change that you deserve. If they say the protest has been monetised show them yours hasn’t been. Eye on the ball, leave the distraction. It’s a strategy.”

She added: “Good morning Let it be known that I, Aisha Yesufu is not interested in being in any committee. The streets is where I belong not the table. That’s my strength! Let those who are good at the table be put forth. We must always put our best foot forward!”

On his part, Segalink tweeted: “I forgive them all. Let’s move on. I will never forsake the cause regardless of the coordinated attacks. I was born for this. If you must protest do it with your chest. No harm shall come to you. We will make sure if this. Let’s keep Govt accountable & shun distractions.”

The controversy comes amid plans by the police to replace SARS with a new unit called the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team.
