Emir Ado Bayero reappoints chief deposed by father 17 years ago

Aminu Ado Bayero

Emir of Kano Aminu Ado Bayero has reappointed the deposed Sarkin Dawaki Mai Tuta Aminu Agundi into the Kano Emirate Council as Sarkin Dawaki Babba.

The new appointment is contained in a letter addressed to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Usman Alhaji and signed by the deputy secretary of Kano Emirate Council Sarki Waziri (Dan Rimin Kano).

Agundi was dethroned in 2003 as district head of Gabasawa and Sarkin Dawaki Maituta by the late Ado Bayero for alleged insubordination.

Agundi was accused of disobeying an order from the late emir, who invited him to appear before him.

Shortly after his dethronement, Agundi sued the late emir and the Kano Emirate Council in a state high court for redress.

The court ruled that Agundi be reinstated and paid all his entitlements.

Despite the Kano Emirate Council appealing the verdict, the Court of Appeal affirmed the judgment of the lower court.

However, the deposed Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II filed an appeal at the Supreme Court challenging the judgments of the two lower courts.

It was learnt that the apex court on June 5, 2020 upheld the late emir’s decision to sack Agundi.

Meanwhile, Bayero has also appointed his elder brother deposed Chiroman Kano Sanusi Ado Bayero as Wamban Kano and member of Kano Emirate council.
