An Ekiti-based chef Damilola Adeparusi has begun marathon cooking for 120 hours in Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

This is coming less than a month after chef Hilda Baci completed her yet-to-be-verified cook-a-thon in 100 hours.

Adeparusi became a cynosure in a viral video after she reportedly completed 15 hours of the 120 hours earmarked for the cooking.

Photos and videos of the Ekiti chef in her kitchen have been shared multiple times on social media.

While Hilda Baci’s efforts remain unconfirmed by the Guinness World Records (GWR), Indian chef Lata Tondon is still the world record holder for the longest cooking by an individual. She achieved the feat in 2019 with 87 hours and 45 minutes of uninterrupted cooking.

It is not immediately clear how Adeparusi’s efforts will be received by the general public in the coming hours. Already, there are people who believe she should have waited for the GWR to confirm Hilda Baci’s efforts.

The Akwa Ibom-born chef held the nation spellbound during her marathon cooking.

Several high-profile persons identified with her. They include President Bola Tinubu, presidential candidates in the February 25 poll, Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar; Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun; singer Tiwa Savage, actor Ik Ogbonna, and actress Nancy Isime.

Mr Sanwo-Olu visited her at the venue of her cooking in Lagos.

“Her dedication, passion for cooking as well as her desire to put our rich culture on the map by not only exhibiting our food but also the resilience, determination, energy and team spirit that has come to be known as the spirit of Lagos and indeed Nigeria is truly remarkable,” the governor wrote on social media.
