Sani used to represent Kaduna Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly before losing the seat at the 2019 general elections.

Sani, a vocal critic of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was arrested in Abuja on Tuesday, for allegedly using the name of the acting EFCC chairman, Ibrahim Magu, to extort various sums of money from unsuspecting members of the public.

He is also accused of extorting $20,000 from a car dealer.

“Sani claimed that he was close to Magu and could help them to escape the agency’s scrutiny and punishments for economic and financial infractions,” a senior official was quoted saying.

It was gathered that Sani was arrested after failing to honour EFCC’s invitations.
