EFCC appeals unfreezing of Patience Jonathan’s account

The Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFFC) has appealed the court order unfreezing a Skye Bank account belonging to the former First Lady Patience Jonathan.

Head Media and Publicity of the commission, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed this move to PREMIUM TIMES in a telephone interview on Wednesday.

“We have appealed the order,” Wilson Uwujaren said.

Mr. Uwujaren also added that the EFCC “served a notice of stay” of execution of the order to Skye Bank which made the bank not to allow Mrs. Jonathan access to the funds during her visit to the Maitama, Abuja branch of the bank, on Monday.

It would be recalled that last Thursday, a Federal High Court in Lagos ordered the unfreezing of the account which is believed to contain about $5.8 million.

The EFCC had earlier in November 2016 filed to freeze the account on grounds that the money in the account is proceed of crime.

The court which granted the order, however, reversed it last Thursday.
