Actress Lilian Afegbai, popularly known as Lily Afe, has expressed frustration following her omission from the best supporting actress category at the upcoming Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
Lilian, who played Idia in To Kill a Monkey by Kemi Adetiba, reacted in a Monday post on X shortly after the nominees were unveiled by host Chimezie Imo on Sunday.
“I always choose to believe everything happens for a reason. I don’t need a nomination for validation,” she wrote.
The actress, whose performance in the series drew attention online, added, “The truth is clear nobody trended like IDIA from TKAM last year. Her acting was 💯💯.”
She ended her reaction with a remark directed at the organisers. “You guys can eat your award. Amvca SMH”
Her exclusion comes despite praise for her portrayal of Idia, particularly for her use of pidgin English and delivery in the Netflix production.
To Kill a Monkey, directed by Adetiba, was released on Netflix in 2025 and features a cast that includes Bucci Franklin, who also received a nomination at this year’s AMVCA.
The best supporting actress category includes nominees such as Linda Ejiofor (The Herd), Bisola Aiyeola (Gingerrr), Sola Sobowale (The Covenant) and Funke Akindele (Behind The Scenes), among others.
