DStv subscribers in Nigeria were left stranded on Saturday when they discovered that rival StarTimes owned exclusive rights to the Europa League final match.
With Arsenal and Chelsea – two of the clubs with the biggest following in Nigeria – playing the final, thousands of MultiChoice-owned DStv had looked forward to watching the showpiece.
Fearing that some people might infringe on its copyright, Chinese-owned StarTimes was forced to issue a statement that it would pursue civil and criminal actions against any television, radio station or online portal that shows the match.
Frustrated Nigerians took their anger to Twitter.
