Wife of a naval officer Bilikisu Adedoyin has been knocked down by a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) driver at Irawo bus stop, Ajegunle, Ikorodu Road in Lagos State.

The yet-to-be identified driver who was said to be under the influence of alcohol, was driving a vehicle belonging to Primero Transport Services Limited.

The 43-year-old Adedoyin was on her way home before she was hit by the BRT bus with number plate EKY 160 XR.

She was taken to the emergency unit of the Ikorodu General Hospital, after allegedly being denied care by two private hospitals.

One of the commuters in the bus Paul Chinedu said attempts to caution the driver for overspeeding proved abortive.

“Those in charge of the BRT buses need to caution their drivers to reduce their speed while driving on the BRT lanes, and to watch the way they live, because the driver was drunk and that was why this accident happened,” Mr Chinedu said.

Adedoyin’s husband, Adebowale, was simply grateful that his wife survived the accident.

Chief security officer of Primero Transport Services Limited, Cletus Okodolor said the management was paying attention to Adedoyin’s recuperation at the Ikorodu General Hospital.

He added that he couldn’t confirm if the driver was drunk or not but that the driver possibly ran out of fear of being lynched.

Lagos police spokesperson Chike Oti confirmed the accident and that the driver presented himself to a nearby police station.

“The woman involved in that accident with the BRT bus is recuperating in the hospital. However, the driver did not run away, he ran to the police station and reported himself. He is currently in detention and investigation is ongoing,” Mr Oti said.
