Driver docked for alleged dangerous driving

Court

A commercial driver, Kingsley Falere, 42, was on Friday arraigned in an Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court, Ondo State, for alleged dangerous driving with the intention to knock down a policeman, Sgt. Alfred Kubuwa.

The accused of no fixed address is standing trial on a three-count charge of dangerous driving, driving without driver’s licence and hackney permit.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Ayodeji Omoyeigha, said the accused on July 17, 2017, along Okitipupa-Igbokoda Road, drove a Toyota Picnic with registration no KTP 913 RG dangerously.

Omoyeigha told the court that the accused failed to stop at a police checkpoint.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 18 (5), 70 (20) and 59 Road Traffic Law Cap. 136 Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him.

The Magistrate, Chris Ojuola, granted the accused bail in the sum of N30, 000 and a surety in like sum.

Ojuola said the surety must present a year’s tax clearance as part of bail conditions.

He adjourned the case until January 23 for further hearing.
