Don’t draw me into political space, Paul Play Dairo tells journalists

Contemporary highlife musician, Paul Play Dairo, has appealed to journalists not to drag him into petty politics ahead of the 2019 general elections.

He made the appeal in a statement on Monday in reaction to statements credited to him in a story published by Vanguard.

The story titled “How Buhari’s reign has affected entertainment” claimed the singer took a “bold swipe” at President Muhammadu Buhari’s government “condemning it for misleading innocent Nigerians to believe in his visions which he claimed will improve the living conditions of the people and make their lives better.”

In a message posted on Facebook, Paul said: “I would like to state here clearly that this interview was cynically doctored to suit his interest or that of individuals unknown to me.”

He said the reporter had asked him his impression on how recession in the country had affected the entertainment industry, to which he said he “answered within the purview of my profession with no extension whatsoever to the government of the day.”

Describing himself as a non-controversial Nigerian, he concluded that he does not “want to be drawn into the political space to be used to serve any interest or group of people.”
