We don’t believe in big names, Zambia coach talks tough

Zambia coach Wedson Nyirenda

Zambia coach, Wedson Nyirenda, has continued his mind games ahead of the crunch World Cup qualifier against Nigeria.

Both nations lock horns at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, on Saturday for a place in next year’s global showpiece.

Aware of the Super Eagles’ galaxy of stars, Nyirenda insists big names don’t win games.

The boastful tactician believes his team can beat any side after knocking off Algeria over two legs.

“We don’t believe in big names, we’re just looking positive,” Nyirenda said from his training camp in Accra, Ghana.

“Nigeria have high profile players who are based in Europe, so too Algeria, but we defeated them home and away.

“We know of Victor Moses, (Alex) Iwobi, (Kelechi) Iheanacho, but my players are self-motivated when they play against the big guys.”

The confident coach also said the Eagles will face “a totally different” team from the one they beat 2-1 in Ndola last October.

“We are now a totally different team from the team who Nigeria beat 2-1 at our home.

“We now have a very good team with positive energy.”

The Chipolopolo are due in Nigeria on Thursday from Ghana, where they have been camping since Monday.
