#EndSARS: Controversy as Ganduje’s ex-aide Dawisu is announced as summit speaker

Some #EndSARS campaigners have taken to Twitter to express their disapproval of the inclusion of Salihu Yakasai alias Dawisu, a former special adviser on media to Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, as part of speakers for the Sorosoke Summit 2021.

The summit is being organised to mark one year anniversary of the #EndSARS movement which got the police to scrap the controversial Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit.

Mr Yakasai was sacked this year after criticising the Buhari administration despite being a member of the All Progressives Congress.

The former SA is billed to speak at the summit on October 20 alongside musician Falz, activist Segun Awosanya alias Segalink among others.

But Dawisu’s critics say his inclusion is not justifiable, arguing that he never joined the #EndSARS protest last year.

@FS_Yusuf_ wrote, “So did Dawisu organize an #EndSARS protest in Kano? Or elsewhere in the North? Why are you people inviting him to come speak at #EndSARS memorial? Why are you guys this disrespectful and stupidly audacious? If u need a Northern rep, go to Jos & pick a female prominent protester.”

@firstladyship wrote, “Adamu Garba alongside Dawisu, were against the #EndSARS. They said our peaceful protests was a plot to remove Buhari from office. A Summit such as this is an insult to the memory of our lost heroes & should be boycotted!!”

@chemicalbrodar tweeted, “Dawisu and Segalink? Please someone should host moaning or squirting competition at that time instead abeg.”

@UchePOkoye wrote, “Noticed that no Igbo person was represented. Noticed that Dawisu who was against EndSARS is representing the North despite their anti-EndSARS stance.Sega Link should be there. But many young people who worked very hard on this cause across Niger. Y’all don’t rate us, lmao.”

@ilynem said, “As at 20th of October 2020, Dawisu was still working for the government that murdered Nigerians at Lekki Toll gate. Today, he is a ‘voice’ for #EndSARS . We really have a short memory in this country.”

@AkwariCharles said, “People wonder why I always advocate for people to find a legitimate means out of Nigeria if they can. Look at the recent #EndSARS memorial planning. They are inviting people who clearly were against us. Dawisu? Segalink? We are not ready for real change.”

@meneikenna tweeted, “Dawisu you are just dull. Question was, did you organize a protest in the north? You lent your voice, you don’t deserve a place in the said conference. Sit this one out, it’s not a political gathering.”
