Passengers on a Dana Air flight from Lagos to Abuja were thrown into panic on Wednesday when one of the aircraft’s exit doors fell off after landing.
“Flew Dana. Exit door was unstable throughout the flight. As we touched down it fell off. Scary stuff,” one of the passengers, Ola Brown, wrote on Twitter.

Another, Dapo Sanwo, wrote: “It was really terrible. It was like traveling with a molue in the early 90s. Dana Air needs to carry out a comprehensive audit of her fleet and the maintenance status. If that hatch had opened mid-air. We’d have lost cabin pressure, oxygen and surely have gone down.”

The airline was yet to react to the incident as at the time of filing this report.
“We need to also get the engineers to give their report,” a staff of the airline’s corporate communication desk told PREMIUM TIMES Wednesday morning.
The incident has, however, prompted Nigerians to express worry about aviation safety in the country.
That Dana accident had nothing to do with anything other than negligence. A door like that doesn’t just fall, it cries, tweaks and begs for attention for weeks before it finally falls. Dana endangered lives “managing it” like some manage their car breaks till something happens.

Only reason Dana were bold enough to recklessly endanger the lives of their passengers is because they know that, rather than hold them accountable, the average Nigerian would rather just call it a miracle and give a testimony in church.

This Dana Air exit door that came off soon after landing is just another plane crash that has been miraculously averted.
In another country, there would be an inquest. Possibly suspension of Dana’s license.

This Dana incidence is worse than a Danfo bus. A Danfo driver will never watch and see his door giving signs for repairs and neglect till it falls off.
