Cristiano Ronaldo in tears after first Champions League red card

Cristiano Ronaldo was reduced to tears after receiving his first Champions League red card when Juventus faced Valencia on Wednesday.

The Portuguese superstar was given his marching orders for a clash with Jeison Murillo.

The Portuguese has won the tournament in each of the past three years with Real Madrid but his attempts to win it for a fourth-straight season with his new club has got off to the worst possible start.

Murillo tumbled to the ground theatrically after the pair were running into the Valencia box and Ronaldo then reached down to the defender, who rose angrily from the turf after a slight tug of his hair.

His dismissal will almost certainly see him miss Juventus’ next Champions League tie against Young Boys Bern, while he is likely to also be suspended for what would no doubt have been a return to Old Trafford against former club Manchester United as well as a home tie against Jose Mourinho’s side.

Despite his sending off, Juventus still took the lead shortly after with Miralem Pjanic scoring from the penalty spot.
