Court remands two over murder of Segun Oni’s aide

APC chieftain Bunmi Ojo shot dead in Ekiti

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ekiti State on Monday remanded Tajudeen Bello and Luck Solomon in prison over the murder of Bunmi Ojo, an aide to a former Governor of Ekiti, Segun Oni.

Police prosecutor, Johnson Okunade, told the court that the accused committed the offence on August 10 in the state capital.

Bello, 22, and Solomon, 32, are facing a two-count charge of murder and membership of a cult.

The prosecutor alleged that the accused are members of the Black Axe confraternity.

The offences contravened Section 319 of Criminal Code and Section 4 (1) of the Secret Cults Abolition and Prohibition of Laws of Ekiti 2012.

Mr Okunade asked the court to remand the accused in prison pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Counsel to the accused, Chris Omokhafe, applied for bail for them but was refused by the court.

Chief Magistrate, Adesoji Adegboye, adjourned the case till September 19 for the DPP’s advice.

An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and former commissioner in the Federal Character Commission, Ojo was fatally shot at a football viewing centre.
