An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ordered the remand of a 32-year-old truck driver, Kayode Oyebamiji, in prison for alleged reckless driving and causing the death of another driver.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr T. O Shomade, did not take the plea of the defendant but ordered that he remanded at Kirikiri prison.

Shomade adjourned the case until April 20 for a bail application.

Oyebamiji, who resides at 1, Billingsway Road, Oregun, Ikeja, is standing trial for reckless driving and manslaughter.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Raji Akeem, had told the court that the offence was committed on February 14 along Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Ikeja.

Akeem said that the defendant drove his truck, FKJ 19XW, in a reckless and dangerous manner and hit a pick up van parked by the roadside.

“The pickup van driver, who was inside his van when the accident occurred, hit his head on the door and blood gushed out.

“The pickup van driver, Dare Adeniran, was rushed to the hospital but died some weeks after,” Akeem said.

The offence contravened sections 27, 28 and 29 of the Road Traffic Law of Lagos State, 2012.
