Court orders release of Dasuki’s passport

A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Maitama on Wednesday ordered the release of the passport of former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki.

Justice Hussein Baba-Yusuf gave the order following an application by Dasuki’s lawyer, Ahmed Raji, pursuant to section 491, 492 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015.

Mr Raji, in the application, asked the court to direct the registrar of the court to release his client’s travelling document to enable get medical treatment abroad.

Counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Oluwaleke Atolagbe, did not oppose the application.

Dasuki faces two separate charges of alleged diversion of funds earmarked for the procurement of arms meant for fighting Boko Haram in the Northeast.

The case was adjourned till March 13 for trial.

The Federal Government finally obeyed court orders to free Dasuki on December 24, 2019, after four years in detention.
