Court orders arrest of Sanusi’s chief of staff, others

EMIR OF KANO MUHAMMADU SANUSI II

A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kano has ordered the arrest of Mannir Sanusi, Chief of Staff to the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, and two persons.

Kano State Public Complainant and Anti-corruption Commission filed for their arrest after they failed to honour its invitation in a N4 billion fraud investigation against Sanusi.

Chief Magistrate Mohammed Idris ordered their arrest on Tuesday.

The other persons are Mujitaba Abba and the accountant of Kano Emirate Council, Sani Muhammad-Kwaru.

Chief state counsel, Salisu Tahir, had said that the request for their arrest was based on the provision of Section 38 of the enabling law establishing the commission.

Former scribe to the Emirate Council, Isa Bayero, had honoured the commission’s invitation, as one of four persons invited for questioning.

Chairman of the commission, Muhiyi Magaji, said the three persons whose arrests have been issued are the principal suspects in the case.

Mr Magaji said the commission had already requested security operatives to enforce the order.
