Coronavirus: Why we concealed infected Italian’s identity – Commissioner

Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, has revealed that the identity of an Italian who is Nigeria’s first recorded case of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) is being withheld because it is against medical profession to disclose it.

Prof Abayomi was quoted saying this via a question-and-answer session on Twitter on Thursday.

“The details of the #COVID19 patient can’t be given out as it is against the practice of medical professionals. It is a patient-doctor confidentiality,” Abayomi said, according to a tweet by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s social media aide, Jubril Gawat.

Since the Italian entered Nigeria on February 24, more than 100 persons he had contact with have been quarantined in Ogun State.

The Italian, who arrived from Milan, visited a facility owned by Lafarge, a cement manufacturer, in Ogun and spent about two days at the location.
