Coronavirus patient absconds from Bauchi isolation centre

A coronavirus patient in Bauchi State has fled from an isolation centre in the state.

Bauchi Deputy Governor, Baba Tela, who is also the chairman of the Task Force Response Committee on Lassa Fever and Coronavirus, disclosed this on Wednesday at the Government House.

“We had at least a case where a patient ran away though we have security personnel at virtually all isolation centres but they are also humans. They have to protect themselves against further exposure to avoid more positive cases in the state,” he said.

“Once a patient is diagnosed he/she ought to follow the medication recommended by the doctor, no patient should run away from isolation centre.”

The deputy governor did not reveal the identity of the fleeing patient but said a manhunt had begun.

He urged members of the public to be vigilant.
