Grammy Award-winning international superstar, Ciara Wilson, has been captured learning the Yoruba Bata dance while dressed in a traditional adire gown.
A video shared on Instagram on Friday showed the 40-year-old singer in a blue adire gown and matching headgear at a Lagos gallery, where she was taught the Bata dance by an instructor.
Ciara’s cultural experience is part of her ongoing visit to Lagos, Nigeria, to celebrate the state’s growing global influence in tourism, art and fashion.
The trip, described as a “homecoming,” coincides with the 15th anniversary of Lagos Fashion Week. The visit was announced on X on Thursday by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Lagos State, Jubril Gawat.
He wrote, “International Superstar, Grammy Award Winner, CIARA Princess Wilson is in Lagos, accompanied by the Commissioner for Tourism, Mrs Toke Benson-Awoyinka. She will be joining us in Lagos to celebrate our Tourism, our Art, and our culture. It’s a homecoming for her and other creatives who see Lagos as home. She would visit different cultural sites in Lagos and also celebrate the successful hosting of the 15th anniversary of the Lagos Fashion Week in collaboration with Lagos State Government.”
Gawat also confirmed that the American singer visited Balogun Market, one of Lagos’ busiest commercial hubs, as part of her cultural tour.
In another video that has gone viral, Ciara commented on the visible improvements in Lagos’ infrastructure since her last visit.
