Chiwetalu Agu

The Department of State Services (DSS) has said that veteran actor Chiwetalu Agu was brought to its custody by the Nigerian Army after his arrest.

Dr. Peter Afunanya the DSS spokesman in a brief chat with The Punch said that the actor was brought to them by the army and that justice would be served.

“Army brought him to us, Justice will take its full course,” he said.

The national president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) Emeka Rollas also speaking with The Punch said that Chiwetalu was picked up by men of the Department of State Security.

“The AGN is aware that the DSS has picked up Chiwetalu Agu after the Nigerian Army arrested him, we are currently working on securing his release,” he said to The Punch.

Qed.ng had reported that the 67-year-old was arrested on Thursday in Onitsha, Anambra State by soldiers after he was spotted wearing an outfit made from the Biafran flag. He, however, said that what he was wearing was a dress with the image of a rising sun and not a Biafran flag.

With the intervention of the actors guild, Mr. Agu was released from the army’s custody on Friday and was handed over to the DSS by the Nigerian Army according to the former.
