Chinese arrested for allegedly stabbing 23-year-old Nigerian lover to death in Kano

Ummakulsum Buhari stabbed by Chinese boyfriend

Police in Kano have arrested a Chinese man, Geng Quanrong, for allegedly stabbing his Nigerian lover, Ummakulsum Buhari, to death at Janbulo quarters of Kumbotso Local Government Area.

The Chinese, Daily Trust gathered, visited Buhari, a divorcee, on Friday night at her parents’ house. Her throat was found slit afterwards. It was not immediately clear what led to the incident.

According to Abubakar Mustapha, a neighbour of the deceased, whom many fondly called Ummita, was dating the Chinese before she got married. She allegedly continued the relationship with him after her marriage failed.

“The incident happened around 10pm last night. The (suspected) murderer was her boyfriend since before she got married. Her husband divorced her and they went on with their friendship as boyfriend and girlfriend,” Mr Abubakar said.

The neighbour added that the deceased’s brother identified as Khaleed stopped a mob from killing the Chinese.

The newspaper further gathered from another neighbour, Muhammad Sani, that sometime in the past the suspect attempted suicide when Buhari was about to get married.

Buhari was reportedly pronounced dead at UMC Zhair Hospital.

Kano police spokesman Abdullahi Haruna told BBC Pidgin that the Chinese national has been arrested.

“Yes, we can confirm that a Chinese national Geng Quanrong jumped a fence and allegedly killed his girlfriend. We have arrested him and have commenced investigation,” he said.
