How China murdered Mikel’s social life

Mikel Obi

Mikel Obi certainly hasn’t been the same since he moved to the Chinese Super League.

The one-time fun loving Super Eagles skipper looks a different person after joining Tianjin TEDA from Chelsea early in January.

Prior to his sojourn to Asia, Mikel was one of Nigeria’s most active players on social media platform, Twitter.

The talismanic midfielder practically makes updates on a daily basis – keeping his over 100,000 followers on the edge of their seats.

However, it’s been a paradigm shift since his switch to China with the ex-Blues fan favourite obviously abandoning the platform.

Mikel’s last tweet was almost two weeks ago when he used the social networking service to confirm his departure from Stamford Bridge and ever since the 29-year-old has suddenly gone awol.

This could be due to the fact that social networking services like Facebook, Instagram and even Twitter are banned in China.

Instead, the country endorsed its own such as Weibo, RenRen and Youku.
