Spokesman of the APC’s presidential campaign council Bayo Onanuga has described Chimamanda Adichie’s letter to US President Joe Biden on President-elect Bola Tinubu as fiction.

In an open letter to the US leader published on Thursday in The Atlantic, Chimamanda said it was shocking that the US State Department congratulated Tinubu.

The Americanah writer asked Biden to uphold his stance on the need for a true democracy, adding that congratulating Tinibu would be endorsing the illegitimate process that produced him as president.

Reacting to her statement, Onanuga, a former managing director of the News Agency of Nigeria, tweeted on Friday that the writer’s open letter was inspired by her favourite candidate Peter Obi’s loss at the poll.

“Dear President Joe Biden, please just trash the open letter by Chimamanda on Nigeria’s election once it gets to your desk. She wrote fiction, inspired by the monumental loss of her tribesman Peter Obi,” he wrote.

During the polls, Onanuga warned the Igbo not to treat Lagos as “no man’s land,” noting that it is a Yoruba land just like Anambra, Imo and the other south-east states are Igbo lands.
