Pop singer, Chidinma Ekile, was conspicuously absent at the special screening of her debut movie, The Bridge, at the Silverbird Cinema in Victoria Island, Lagos on Saturday.

No reason was given for her absence although an Instagram post by the 26-year-old on Sunday morning gave her location as Abuja.

Other cast members including Demola Adedoyin, Zack Orji, Tina Mba and Lere Paimo, were, however in attendance.

Directed by Kunle Afolayan, produced by Muka Ray and funded by Bank of Industry’s Nollyfund, The Bridge is a cross-cultural movie about love across the Niger.

It tells the story of Stella (Chidinma), a young lady from a distinguished Igbo family who falls in love and secretly marries Obadare (Demola), a Yoruba Prince against her parent’s wish.

The relationship becomes threatened by tribal prejudice and the consequences shake the very foundation and unity of both families.

Chidinma in an interview with Guardian Life as “one of the best things I’d ever done,” adding that “I definitely loved the experience.”

Among the personalities at the special screening were Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed; former Minister of Youth Development, Funke Adedoyin; Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorinde; Special Assistant on Arts, Culture and Tourism to the Kwara State Governor, Femi Adebayo; CEO of Terra Kulture, Bolanle Austin-Peters and Founder of the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), Chioma Ude.

Other entertainers and celebrities present include Hilda Dokubo, Yemi Shodimu, Bryan Okwara, Gbenga Adeyinka, Tade Ogidan and Kunle Bakare.
