An Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court has remanded a 40-year-old chemist, Folake Oluwafemi, for allegedly performing an abortion on a lady which led to her death.

Mrs Oluwafemi, whose address was not stated, was charged with manslaughter.

Police prosecutor, Monica Ikebuilo, told the court that Oluwafemi carried out an abortion on one Ms Oluwabukola Adeosun on February 20, at Ijero-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

The prosecutor said the abortion resulted in complications which required Adeosun to be taken to a hospital where she died.

She said the alleged offence contravened Section 325 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti, 2012.

The court did not take the plea of the defendant.

However, Magistrate Omolola Akosile ordered that the case file be duplicated and sent to the state director of public prosecutions for advice.

The accused will remain in prison until hearing resumes on April 4.
