Chelsea free fall continues as Leicester City, Manchester United impress

Jose Mourinho wasn’t in attendance, but Chelsea’s abysmal title defence lurched to another low with a 1-0 loss to Stoke City – their seventh defeat from 12 Premier League games.

It is also their third consecutive loss of the campaign.

Potters winger Marko Arnautovic scored the winner with an acrobatic volley in the second half and, despite striving forward, Eden Hazard, Diego Costa and Co could not muster a response.

The Blues are now 16th on the log after picking up a shocking 11 points from 12 games, while Stoke on 16 points climbed to 12th.

Jamie Vardy extended his scoring streak to nine straight Premier League games to help Leicester City beat Watford 2-1 Saturday and maintain its grip on third place.

Vardy slotted in a penalty in the 65th minute to make it 2-0 and move within one game of Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record streak of scoring in 10 straight Premier League games.

N’Golo Kante had put Leicester ahead in the 53rd minute after a mistake by goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes, who let a low shot slip between his hands.

Troy Deeney pulled back a goal from the spot in the 76th for Watford.

Second-half goals from Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata gave Manchester United a 2-0 win in a closely-fought match with West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford.

The result, which is Louis van Gaal’s side’s first league win in three outings, keeps United fourth in the Premier League table, while West Brom sit 12th.

Rob Elliot and Ayoze Perez were the heroes for Newcastle United as they withstood 90 minutes of pressure from AFC Bournemouth to earn a 1-0 victory, the first away win in the 2015/16 season.

At Upton Park, Romelu Lukaku cancelled out Manuel Lanzini’s opener as Everton held fellow European hopefuls West Ham to a 1-1 draw.
