Chef and YouTuber Tolani Tayo-Osikoya, known as Chef T and Diary of a Kitchen Lover, has announced her conversion from Christianity to Islam.
She shared this in a video posted on her Instagram page on Monday while making Iftar for her family.
In the video, she said she first hesitated to speak about her decision because of discussions around religion on social media.
She said she later decided to share her story after reflection.
Chef T said her journey to Islam started about nine years ago.
She said she was born into a Christian family but her path changed after she married a Muslim. According to her, the decision to convert was personal and was not due to pressure from her husband or his family.
She said her husband’s family explained the teachings of Islam to her before their marriage so she could understand the faith.
Chef T also said her parents supported her decision and that their support helped her continue on her path.
She said the process involved learning and reflection. According to her, she has experienced Islam in different countries and has continued to learn about the faith.
She said this year’s Ramadan has special meaning for her because it is the first time she is reading the Quran with the aim of understanding it more.
Chef T said she is still learning and hopes to improve in practising parts of the faith, including the five pillars of Islam.
She also said she hopes to perform the Hajj in the future.
She ended the video by asking people to focus on values and how they treat others.
