Catholic priest kidnapped in Edo

Suspected gunmen have kidnapped a Catholic priest in Edo State, Reverend Father Isaac Agabi.

Father Agabi is the priest in charge of Holy Name Catholic Church, Ikpeshi, Akoko Edo Local Government Area.

The priest was said to have been abducted on Sunday at about 5.00pm along Auchi-Igarra road on his way back to the parish.

Police in the state said they have begun the search for the abducted priest.

Edo police spokesman, Chidi Nwabuzor, said police operatives have visited the scene and that they were combing the bush in search of the kidnapped Catholic priest.

He said the vehicle of the kidnapped priest had been recovered.

Meanwhile, a lecturer of the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi and four others who were kidnapped along Ifoh-Uzeba-Kabo road near Owan West Local Government Area of Edo have been released.

Sources said they were freed after ransom of over N600,000 was paid.
