CAF U-20: Oshmhen secures victory for Flying Eagles in Sudan

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles edged closer towards booking a place for the 2017 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations following a 2-1 victory over Sudan on Sunday.

The reigning champions who defeated Burundi in the previous round of the qualifier, outclassed their host at the El Merriekh Stadium, Khartoum.

FIFA U-17 World Cup record scorer, Victor Osimhen, grabbed a late winner for the visitors as they came from behind to beat the Young Falcons.

Sani Mohammed struck in the 27th minute to give Sudan a shock lead. The Eagles were punished for failing to covert clear cut chances that came their way with Osimhen the major culprit.

With defeat in sight, the young Eagles finally got a breakthrough in the second half through Samuel Chukwueze.

Porto bound Chukwueze was on hand to convert a pinpoint pass from Kingsley Michael six minutes pass the hour mark to draw the visitors level.

Osimhen however made amends for earlier misses to score the winner four minutes from time.

The Wolfsburg forward produced a stunning strike and almost doubled the lead moments later to the disbelief of the home fans.

Both nations will square off in the reverse fixture in a fortnight with the winner advancing to the tournament billed for Zambia in February.

Nigeria with seven has won the most titles – three more than their closest rival, Egypt.
