Businessman Stephen Akintayo offers N1bn to buy Nairaland after initial N100m

Investment coach Stephen Akintayo has made an offer of N1billion ($2.4 million) to buy popular internet forum, Nairaland.

His offer comes amid another made by a Bitcoin trader Gaius Chibueze. The Bitcoin Chief, as Mr Chibueze is popularly called, made an offer of N150 million.

Mr Akintayo, who is the group managing director/CEO of Gtext Global, a multinational group of company, tweeted his offer on Tuesday.

He said, “Base on this! I Am Ready to pay 1Billion Naira 20% Cash 80% Land to Buy @nairaland 100%. Guys let’s do this! I know what I can turn this site to in less than 10Years. I Mean Business! We can’t keep waiting till foreigners buy all our tech business.”

Akintayo’s offer was inspired by the purchase of Twitter by the world’s richest man Elon Musk for over $40 billion in cash.

Also on Tuesday, the author started a poll asking the public if he should buy Nairaland.

Akintayo had earlier said he was ready to buy the platform for N100 million, adding that he was “willing to pay more if a neutral Valuer confirm it’s worth More!”

According to data online, Nairaland is Africa’s largest online forum with 2.85 million registered members.

The founder Seun Osewa reportedly rejected a $1 million offer to sell the platform in 2010.
